Katrina Holland becomes JOIN’s Executive Director leading the organization through unprecedented times.
Katrina is a strategic housing advocate, an expert in tenant rights and homelessness prevention, and a proven leader in non-profit organizational management. Katrina brings compassion and a strong commitment to addressing the needs of our neighbors living in poverty and experiencing homelessness.
2019
JOIN expands access to housing by master leasing 11 single room occupancy (SRO) units.
Each unit rents for $450 monthly providing people with low income an affordable housing option in an exorbitant rental market.
Shannon Singleton becomes Housing Policy Advisor to Governor Kate Brown. Will Harris, JOIN’s Deputy Director of 25 years, steps in as Interim Executive Director.

Additionally, 10,525 friendly home visits were made to support people newly in their home.
Once people are moved into their home, JOIN’s Retention Team provides ongoing support. Thanks to the support provided post move-in, 83% of the households we placed remain stable 12 months later.
2017

975 people left the street for permanent and stable housing through JOIN’s support. This includes 122 families caring for 322 children.
2016
JOIN’s 8 – person Outreach Team engaged and built relationships with over 1,200 people living on the streets within Multnomah County.
The Welcome Home Coalition, later became fiscally sponsored by JOIN in 2018, led the first successful housing bond measure to increase the affordable housing supply in Portland through the Yes for Affordable Homes campaign.
2015
JOIN welcomes fresh leadership as Shannon Singleton becomes Executive Director.
Former Executive Director, Marc Jolin becomes Director of The Joint Office of Homeless Services in Multnomah County. Shannon and Marc work together in their new roles to continue moving people out of homelessness and into stable housing.
With Shannon’s leadership, JOIN helps an unprecedented number of people – 806 total – leave the streets for permanent housing, despite the tightening rental market.
2014
JOIN expands Street Outreach into East Multnomah County, partnering with the City of Gresham to hire 2 full-time Outreach Workers.
2013
JOIN launches a comprehensive equity initiative in order to critically examine all aspects of our work and our organization through an equity lens.
2012
Thanks to unprecedented community support, JOIN celebrates 20 years of service and 6,500 open doors
2011
JOIN houses over 300 households and serves 80-100 people each day with basic services on the House
2010
Outstanding individual and foundation support makes it possible for JOIN to open the doors to a new enhanced service facility on NE 81st Avenue

A partnership with the United Way allows JOIN to implement an in-house supportive employment program

JOIN helps 518 people move into housing and makes over 3600 friendly visits to newly housed folks

JOIN says goodbye to founder Rob Justus after 15 years of leadership and welcomes Marc Jolin as the new Director
2005
In support of the community’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness, JOIN begins housing zero income chronically homeless people

JOIN hires the first Retention Worker, recognizing the need for more housing retention support

JOIN opens the doors to a more robust basic service center in the Brooklyn neighborhood

For the first time, JOIN engages and helps to rapidly re-house families with children who are sleeping outside or in their cars

JOIN expands the Outreach Team to 3 workers and helps people end their homelessness

JOIN opens the “House” to provide basic services to homeless folks through a barter system
